Questions for Lynn Compton, Candidate 4th District Supervisor

Lynn Compton

Lynn Compton, a Nipomo resident is currently running for the 4th District Supervisor seat, once held by the late Paul Teixeira.  I have some questions for her, which I tried posting to her campaign page, but they apparently would not post for some reason. Hopefully she might take some time and respond over here:

1. Supplemental Water for Nipomo, what is your current position?

2. How did you vote (assuming you live within the district) on the most recent pipeline vote?

3. How would you have voted if you were not included in the election, and why?

4. Should the NCSD currently declare a moratorium on building based on lack of water?

5. What is your position on incorporation for Nipomo?

6. Were you part of that movement while it was ongoing–why or why not?

7. What do you think of the county’s practice of placing affordable housing in Nipomo?

8. What do you think is the single largest issue facing Nipomo, and how can it be successfully resolved?

9. What is your position on the Laetitia subdivision planned for the 1,900-acre Laetitia Winery?

Nipomo In Spring

Nipomo is always beautiful; however, Spring is spectacular here on the Golden State’s Central Coast. A few random shots in and around Nipomo–The Foot of The Hills–Gateway to San Luis Obispo County . . .

Nipomo Mesa Supplemental Water Project Facts

The NCSD has recently provided Nipomo residents with a further flyer entitled Nipomo Mesa Supplemental Water Project Facts.  It helps clarify what it going on, why it is going on, the costs, and why we as Nipomo residents should support the Nipomo Water Pipeline from Santa Maria to Nipomo.  This supplemental water resource will help safeguard our ground water supply well into the future.  This is good for our community, our homes, and our families.  Click on the photos to enlarge in order to read:

Relevant Santa Maria Water Litigation Documents

There are several important documents from the Santa Maria Water Litigation.  The NCSD website has an excellent archive of them.  I am posting a few of them here:

The 2008 Final Judgment is here:  JUDGEMENT 1-25-2008

The 2005 Stipulation is here:  STIPULATION 6-30-2005 STIP

Relevant portions of the Judgment and Stipulation explained here: markman presentation 2-27-08

Most recent NMMA report for the Nipomo Mesa is here: 2010 ANNUAL REPORT

A review of these documents demonstrate that as part of the Santa Maria groundwater litigation the court has found the need to manage ground water on the Nipomo Mesa.  The Court has ordered the NCSD to acquire 2500 acre square feet of water, from Santa Maria.  The NNMA reports demonstrate that this supplemental water will further strengthen the health of the Nipomo Mesa Water, by reducing pumping that currently is producing depression areas in some areas of heavy pumping on the Nipomo Mesa by the NCSD.

Vote to approve the Nipomo Water Pipeline

The San Luis Tribune Opines The Nipomo Pipeline Project Expensive But Necessary

Today’s Tribune editorial comes out in favor of the NCSD’s efforts to construct a water pipeline from Santa Maria to Nipomo.  I think the Tribune editorial is well reasoned and well written.  I agree with this editorial, and repost it here to further encourage discussion on this issue in our community: Continue reading

Frequently Asked Questions About Nipomo’s Water Supply

Below is a repost from the NCSD website which contains a wealth of information about the current need to bring a water pipeline from Santa Maria to supplement Nipomo’s only sources of water, our aquifer.  I repost it here because I think it answers from very basic and good questions about why we need to strengthen and protect our current and only water supply.  It’s not that we are about to run out of water.  Rather, we have only one source, and were it to be jeopardized it would be catastrophic for Nipomo. Nipomo Water Issues

One of the critical issues facing Nipomo today is the protection of its water supply.  The Nipomo Community Services District has dedicated a portion of its website to education the public about the water issues currently facing  Nipomo.  As time permits I will post discussions about the proposed pipe line and the water issues facing Nipomo.

There is also a private group called Protect Mesa Water which is soliciting donations to promote the assessment district to pay for a water pipeline from Santa Maria to Nipomo and also to help pay advertising costs in support of that effort.

The Sunset Of Medical Marijuana In California

San Francisco: Medical Cannabis Competition 20108

Media accounts across nation over the last weeks and months paint a portrait of an industry in decline all over California:  Medical Marijuana.  Starting with the Sacramento Bee there remain only eight stores, down from 99 that at one time operated in Sacramento County.  Sacramento City has frozen permit applications for new dispensaries, while Sacramento County is cracking down in the unincorporated areas: Continue reading
